How to clean a LinkedIn prospect CSV

A different URL does not always mean a different person. The same profile can appear with a country host, a tracking parameter or a trailing slash. Standardize those variations before comparing rows, then check what the other columns say.

When you are ready, follow the guide to importing LinkedIn prospects from CSV for field mapping and workspace review.

  1. Keep your original export. Use a UTF-8 CSV with a header row. Pick its delimiter and select the column containing person profile URLs.
  2. Check identity before deduplicating. A company page, Sales Navigator lead link or empty URL does not identify a public person profile for this check.
  3. Resolve conflicting versions. Identical rows can be reduced to one. If the same profile has different names, titles or other values, review both versions and decide which information belongs in your source file.
  4. Review the import separately. The local check cannot see your CRM. Your workspace’s import preview still checks field mapping, other field validation and existing prospects.

What this CSV checker does

How does it identify duplicate LinkedIn profiles?

It converts HTTP and LinkedIn country subdomains to https://www.linkedin.com, removes query parameters and fragments, and strips trailing slashes. Rows with the same resulting URL form a group. If every other trimmed cell matches, the first record is kept. If any other cell differs, every row in that group is set aside for review. Profile path case is preserved, matching the application’s normal import identity handling; different spelling, encoded variations or aliases are not assumed to be the same person.

Which LinkedIn URLs can I check?

Use public person URLs with /in/ followed by one profile identifier, or the older /pub/name/id/id/id format. Company pages, posts, profile detail subpages, searches, Sales Navigator links and lnkd.in short links are flagged. The tool does not visit or expand links. It also flags ambiguous URL syntax such as encoded spaces, embedded credentials, unusual ports or dot segments instead of silently repairing it. A format check cannot prove that a profile exists or belongs to the named person.

Does my file leave the browser?

The checker reads selected or pasted data in this page’s memory. It does not upload the file, call an enrichment service, save it in browser storage or add its contents to a URL. Clear or reload the page to remove the data. Optional site analytics use fixed interaction names; they do not receive file names, headers or cell values. Opening OutreachGenie does not transfer the CSV; you choose the file again during the normal workspace import.

What happens to conflicting, invalid or incomplete rows?

They are excluded from the proposed CSV and retained in a separate downloadable review report. The report contains the source record number, issue, original headers and original row values. Original values use JSON so extra cells and quoted line breaks are preserved. The source file is never modified. Correct the source and rerun the check to bring resolved rows back into the proposed file.

Is the downloaded CSV safe to open in a spreadsheet?

Cells are quoted, internal quotes are escaped, and formula-like values beginning with =, +, -, @ or certain control characters are prefixed with an apostrophe. This reduces formula execution risk when opened in spreadsheet software, but changes those values. A phone number beginning with + is one example. Review protected values before another import, and keep the apostrophe when opening untrusted content in a spreadsheet.

Does “rows to keep” mean every row will import successfully?

No. It means the selected profile column and record shape passed this local check. The tool does not validate email deliverability, phone numbers, optional field lengths, employer, buying intent, consent or workspace duplicates. It cannot check whether a LinkedIn profile is active. Use your workspace’s import preview to validate field mapping and existing-prospect matches before confirming an import.

Which CSV formats and limits are supported?

Choose comma, semicolon, tab or pipe separators. The parser supports quoted delimiters, quoted line breaks, escaped double quotes and a UTF-8 byte-order mark. It requires unique non-empty headers, checks malformed quoting, and flags rows whose cell count differs from the header. This browser tool accepts up to 5 MB, 10,000 data records, 64 columns and 400,000 data cells. Headers are limited to 255 characters and cells to 32,767 characters. These are local tool limits; the application’s import can have different file-size limits. Excel workbooks must first be exported as CSV UTF-8.
