LinkedIn group-members export: native limits and partial browser capture
Group access and partial member capture

LinkedIn does not provide a native export of a group's member list and email addresses. Its group-export help page states that limitation explicitly to protect member privacy. Managing the group does not create the missing download button.
If your actual goal is community administration, use the group's native controls and an opt-in membership process where appropriate. If the goal is account research, review relevant people individually within the access you have. Neither workflow produces a verified CSV of everyone in the group.
OutreachGenie's Chrome extension can capture accessible member rows already loaded on a group's members page, then export saved workspace records to CSV. That is partial browser capture, not a native or complete group export. It does not reveal hidden members, broaden access or establish that an email address is available.
Separate a visible group from an exportable dataset
LinkedIn's public-group documentation distinguishes public discussion visibility from membership access. It says members must join the group to see the full member list, and notes a gradual rollout of the public-group feature.
An accessible post therefore does not mean its entire community is available to download. Private and unlisted groups have additional visibility boundaries. LinkedIn's group-access guidance says unlisted groups do not appear in nonmembers' search results and can be reached through a direct link or invitation.
Use your actual account access. Do not borrow another member's account, automate member-page traversal or look for a way around a hidden list. A group name appearing on a profile is context, not permission to retrieve a private roster.
Decide which task you are trying to finish
| Task | Workable route | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Manage membership or moderation | Native group management tools | Not an external member contact export |
| Invite members to a separate newsletter or event | An appropriate group announcement and voluntary signup | Only people who choose to register enter that list |
| Research a few relevant professionals | Authorized member view and individual profile review | A selected research list, not the full membership |
| Back up your own first-degree connections | LinkedIn connection export | Covers your connections, not everyone in the group |
| Save accessible rows already loaded in the browser | OutreachGenie's group import and workspace CSV export | Partial records; no complete-roster guarantee |
Do not pick an exporter before deciding the purpose. A complete roster can be unnecessary for answering which discussions your community needs or who has explicitly asked for a resource.
Build a small manual research record
For native member review, LinkedIn documents this route in its group-connection instructions: open Groups, select a group under Your groups, choose Show all in the members section and open a person's profile. Interface availability can differ; stop if the view is not available to your account.
Opening the profile is the research step. Sending an invitation is a separate decision. LinkedIn's instructions show how an eligible member can connect; they do not establish that every group member wants a sales message.
Keep only what the defined task needs. A useful manual record can include a public profile URL, the current role you verified, the group URL, a review date and a factual reason for inclusion. Do not guess an email from a name or relabel a profile's past employer as its current company.
For example, suppose a member asks how other operations teams manage duplicate CRM records. You can record that question and check whether the person has a relevant role. The post does not establish a buying budget, purchase timeline or permission to add them to an unrelated mailing list. Ask before sending a resource that requires a separate signup.
Let people choose an external community list
A group owner who needs registrations for an event can explain the event, the organizer and how submitted contact details will be used. Link an appropriate voluntary form, subject to the group's rules, and keep the registration record separate from LinkedIn membership.
Use clear fields tied to the event or newsletter. Do not prefill a purported member roster or state that joining the LinkedIn group also enrolled someone in another channel. Record the person's actual submission and any relevant choices.
An opt-in list will be smaller than the membership count. That is expected: the two counts describe different actions. If someone leaves the group or asks you to stop contacting them, review the external record and applicable instructions rather than assuming LinkedIn updates it for you.
Know what a connection archive can and cannot replace
LinkedIn's connection export is a separate native feature. It covers first-degree connections, and emails appear only where members' settings allow them to be downloaded. It cannot export contacts who are not first-degree connections.
If you happen to be connected to several group members, the connection file still does not prove a complete group roster or automatically establish current group membership. Keep the source labeled as your connection archive. Do not join by name alone to infer which rows belong to a group.
The wider own-data download concerns your personal account data. It is not a workaround for LinkedIn's explicit group-export limitation. For the actual connection workflow, use the connections-to-CSV guide.
Capture loaded rows without promising a roster
With the Chrome companion connected, open the members page you are authorized to view. When available, OutreachGenie shows an “Import members of…” bar for the member rows loaded there. It reads usable profile links and available name, headline and location text; it does not retrieve a hidden full-group dataset.
Before import, create a new review list not attached to a campaign. Inspect existing matched prospects and their campaign memberships: a new list does not remove existing active memberships. Keep “Then start flow” set to “No flow after import.” Adding records to an active campaign's list or selecting a flow can enroll people before review.
After import, use Open list to inspect the actual saved records, matches and any reported errors or quota limits. Add the group URL and review context as factual manual notes; do not assume the group source was saved automatically. Review existing conversations and exclusions before choosing outreach.
Export the reviewed workspace list with Export → Export to CSV. Describe the file as saved prospect records from a partial group-page capture. Missing profile links, unloaded rows or unavailable fields can leave gaps; the displayed group-member total is not an export reconciliation count. If the import bar is unavailable, use the native/manual route rather than attempting to bypass access.
LinkedIn prohibits software and extensions that scrape or automate its site, with restriction exposure for automated activity. A visible browser, low volume or an admin role does not remove that boundary. Decide whether third-party capture is appropriate before running it, and label any resulting records accurately.
Questions that come up in practice
Common questions
Can a LinkedIn group admin download all members?
LinkedIn does not provide a native group-member and email export. Its help page documents no administrator exception. Partial third-party capture is separate and remains subject to LinkedIn's software and automation rules.
Does public group content expose the member list?
Not automatically. LinkedIn distinguishes public post visibility from membership access and says members must join a public group to see its full member list. Availability can vary with rollout.
Does OutreachGenie capture every member of a group?
Do not assume that. The group import reads accessible member rows already loaded in the browser. Review the saved records and export that workspace list; unavailable rows, missing fields and import limits can leave gaps.
