How to find an email address on LinkedIn when the member shares it

Native Contact Info and email evidence

Open the intended person's LinkedIn profile and select Contact info in the introduction section. If an email address is visible to your account, you can review it there. If no email appears, leave the value missing; LinkedIn does not promise an address for every profile or every first-degree connection. Its Contact Info guide and email-visibility settings explain why availability differs.

A visible address is a place to begin checking. It may be a personal primary email rather than a current work address, and visibility alone does not establish permission for the message you intend to send.

Check the right person's Contact Info

  1. Confirm the profile. Compare the person's name, current role and organization with your research. A correct-looking email on the wrong profile is still the wrong contact.
  2. Open Contact info. Look in the profile's introduction section. Review the fields available to your signed-in account; exact placement can vary by interface.
  3. Read the address without upgrading its meaning. Record the source and check date if you need to retain it. Do not label it “verified work email” simply because it appeared on LinkedIn.
  4. Check whether it fits your purpose. Confirm the intended person, current professional context and whether you may use that channel before sending anything.

LinkedIn describes a prefilled primary email, not an employer-verified work address. A personal address can therefore appear even when the profile lists a current employer. Do not replace it with a guessed corporate pattern or assume that an address on the employer's domain proves current employment.

Contact Info can also contain a website or other fields the member has supplied. Those may help you find an appropriate public professional contact route. They do not entitle you to infer private contact details that are absent.

Visibility, downloads and discoverability are different controls

LinkedIn's email-visibility guidance describes settings for Only visible to me, 1st-degree connections, 1st and 2nd-degree connections, and Anyone on LinkedIn. Its default also includes some approved-service and email-contact contexts. The relevant result is what the member's settings and your relationship actually expose, not a blanket rule that connecting reveals every address.

ControlWhat it concernsWhat it does not establish
Email visibilityWho can see the primary email under the member's settingsA verified current employer or permission to market
Connections' data-export toggleWhether that primary email may appear in connections' exportsThat every visible email will be included in a download
Discoverability by emailWhether a known email can help someone find a profile in supported discovery contextsA reverse lookup that reveals an unknown email from a profile

The download setting is a separate toggle. An empty email field in a connections archive can reflect that distinction; it is not a reason to manufacture the missing value. LinkedIn's discoverability guidance also does not establish a universal search-bar feature for entering an email or extracting a hidden one.

For your own email, LinkedIn documents the desktop path Me → Settings & Privacy → Visibility → Email visibility. Review the audience option and the export toggle separately. Changing your settings does not change what another member shares with you.

When no email is shown

Keep “email not visible when checked” as the result. It does not prove the person has no email, that their account is broken or that they deliberately rejected your particular request.

Use an appropriate available channel instead. A current LinkedIn conversation may be enough to ask whether the person prefers a work email for a specific follow-up. A public company contact route may suit a general business inquiry. Explain why you need the channel rather than treating an address as something you must obtain before the person can choose.

For example, in a fictional conversation where someone has already asked for a document:

I can share the implementation notes here. If you'd prefer email, which work address should I use for that document?

That example depends on an existing request. It is not a cold-message pretext or permission to add the address to unrelated campaigns. Honor a refusal or request for no further contact, and do not switch channels to bypass it.

What OutreachGenie's contact lookup can and cannot tell you

OutreachGenie can look for available native contact details in the background for eligible saved connections, through its paired extension and signed-in LinkedIn session. This work runs after ordinary queued work; it is not an on-demand public API request or a selectable campaign action in the sidebar. A lookup can return an email or phone when present in the response, fail or return no contact data. It does not promise to reveal an address LinkedIn withholds, and parsing a returned address is not a mailbox or identity check.

That is a different capability from the bulk profile enricher, which gathers available profile fields. Do not assume that every feature with “enrich” in its name finds email, or that an email result carries a delivery guarantee.

If you save a reviewed person, use a list unassigned to an active campaign and check their existing campaign memberships. Where offered, set Then start flow → No flow after import. Keep the source, check date and uncertainty with the record before choosing outreach. See the profile-to-CRM workflow for the capture checks.

Verify the address for the use you intend

A mailbox check, identity match and permission decision answer different questions. An address can accept mail while belonging to someone else or reflecting an old employer. A member can share an address for a document without agreeing to an automated sales sequence.

Before use, confirm the professional match and apply an appropriate email-verification process. Preserve uncertain or catch-all results rather than silently marking them valid. The contact-data verification guide covers those checks and supplier claims in detail.

If the evidence is insufficient, keep the address out of the approved outreach set. A missing email is a useful research result when it prevents a wrong-person message or an unwanted channel change.

Questions that come up in practice

Common questions

Why can't I see a connection's email address on LinkedIn?

Members control who can see their email, including an Only visible to me option. Being connected does not guarantee that every address is visible. Record that no email was visible when checked rather than guessing a replacement.

Will a visible LinkedIn email appear in my connections download?

Not necessarily. LinkedIn provides a separate toggle controlling whether a member's primary email can appear in connections' data exports. Profile visibility and export inclusion are different settings.

Does discoverability by email reveal a hidden address?

No. Discoverability settings concern finding a profile from an email already known in supported contexts. They do not establish a reverse lookup that reveals an unknown address from a profile.

Does OutreachGenie find LinkedIn Contact Info?

OutreachGenie can look for available native contact details in the background for eligible saved connections through its paired extension and signed-in session, after ordinary queued work. This is not an on-demand public API request or a sidebar campaign action. Results can be empty or fail and do not verify identity, employment or delivery.
