How to create a LinkedIn company Page with the right identity and admins

Organization Page setup and ownership

A LinkedIn company Page represents an organization. Your personal profile represents you, and you use that profile to administer the Page. You do not need to buy Premium or create a second, business-named personal account to create a Page.

LinkedIn says Page creation is free. Paid products such as Premium Company Page and Premium Business are separate choices. Set up the correct identity and access first; decide whether an optional subscription solves a real need afterward.

Check whether the organization already has a Page

Search for the organization before creating anything. Check its name, website and location rather than assuming the first similar name belongs to you. A duplicate divides the publishing and administration work and can confuse people trying to verify the business.

If the correct Page exists, request admin access instead of creating another. If it represents a different organization with the same name, you can create your own Page, but its public LinkedIn URL must be unique.

A Listing Page is another possibility. LinkedIn creates these Pages and marks them with a banner. Its claiming instructions say an eligible current employee may see Claim this page. Confirm that you are an authorized representative, then follow the claim flow. Once claimed, it becomes a managed LinkedIn Page. If someone has already claimed it, request admin access.

Do not claim an unrelated organization or treat a missing claim button as a reason to impersonate an employee. Eligibility and administrative access are different from being able to find the Page in search.

Use a real personal account for administration

LinkedIn's profile-versus-Page guidance says profiles must represent real people. You cannot convert a personal profile into an organization Page or use an organization name as a substitute for your own identity.

Each admin signs in with their own personal LinkedIn credentials. The Page grants separate role-based permissions; it does not have its own shared login. Assign a colleague the appropriate admin role through their own account.

Before starting, prepare the organization name, website, intended public Page URL, organization details and profile information. Have the brand assets and a factual description ready. You will need to confirm that you have the right to act for the organization.

Create the Page on a supported device

LinkedIn documents Page creation on desktop and its iOS app; it says creation is not supported on Android. These are the desktop steps:

  1. Sign in with your personal LinkedIn account.
  2. Open For Business in the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to Create a Company Page.
  4. Choose the appropriate type: Company, Showcase page or Educational institution.
  5. Complete the Page identity, organization details and profile information.
  6. Confirm that you are authorized to act for the organization.
  7. Select Create page, then Start building your page to complete it.

Choose the type for the entity you actually represent. A school, an organization and a specialized Showcase Page are different objects; a Page-type decision should not be driven by whichever name or URL happens to be available.

After creation, LinkedIn makes the creator a super admin. Check the public result and the admin view separately. A successful form submission is not a review of whether the description, website link and organization identity are correct.

Resolve the error shown, rather than inventing a workaround

LinkedIn's creation troubleshooting page lists several possible blocks: an existing Page, an account without enough connections, a newly created account, a public URL already in use, workplace verification and creation-volume limits.

Use the explanation that matches the actual error. A new account may need to wait; workplace verification may be required. Neither condition is solved by creating more identities or sending irrelevant invitations. LinkedIn's guidance is to connect with people you know.

If the desired URL is taken by another legitimate organization, choose a truthful alternative that distinguishes your business. If your organization already owns the Page, recover the administration route instead. Browser cache or browser-choice troubleshooting belongs after those account and identity checks, not before them.

Give each admin the access their job needs

LinkedIn distinguishes Page admin roles: a super admin manages the full Page and other admins; a content admin manages publishing and events; an analyst monitors performance. Paid media roles are a separate set of permissions. Do not assume an advertising role grants every Page control.

To add an admin, use the super admin view: Settings → Manage admins → Page admins or Paid media admins → Add admin. Find the person, choose the required role and save.

LinkedIn also lists eligibility conditions, including following the Page and being within the supported connection degrees. If Add admin is absent, check your own role and the member's eligibility. A parent Page's super admin does not automatically administer every Showcase Page.

For an agency, agree who retains administration when the engagement ends. Keep the client contact and role assignment recorded; an agency subscription to another tool does not transfer ownership of someone's LinkedIn identity.

Complete the Page around a buyer's research task

Write a description that tells a visitor who the business serves, what work it does and where to verify the offer. Use accurate links and current information. For a hypothetical operations consultancy, explaining the specific handoff problem it works on is more useful than claiming to transform every business.

Then choose the first useful publishing job: answer a recurring customer question, explain a service boundary or show a documented example you have permission to share. The company Page follower guide covers that next stage. Creating the Page does not create a relevant audience automatically.

If you are comparing paid individual research features, use the Premium Business versus Sales Navigator guide. A free organization Page, a personal Premium license and an OutreachGenie workspace are separate things. Decide which missing capability you need before adding a subscription.

Questions that come up in practice

Common questions

Does a LinkedIn company Page cost money?

LinkedIn says Page creation is free. Premium Company Page, personal Premium licenses and advertising are separate optional purchases. Check the specific capability and current quote before paying.

Can I turn a personal LinkedIn profile into a company Page?

LinkedIn says profiles represent individuals and cannot be converted into organization Pages. Use a real personal profile to create or administer the organization's separate Page.

What if LinkedIn already created a Page for my organization?

Check whether it is a Listing Page with a claim banner. An eligible current employee may claim it after confirming authority. If it is already managed, request admin access rather than creating a duplicate.
