A catch-all domain leaves a real uncertainty.
Some mail servers accept a check for any address at the domain. That does not prove the individual mailbox exists. Keep catch-all results visible and apply your own sending policy rather than treating them as a clean valid list.
Unknown means the check could not settle the question.
Mail servers can defer, block or time out verification requests. The report preserves an unknown result instead of converting it into valid or invalid. Even a valid result cannot guarantee delivery, inbox placement or a reply.
BEFORE YOU START
The details that matter.
Is this more than an email syntax checker?
Yes. The workflow uses a verification provider and preserves its mailbox verdict and available flags. A correctly formatted address alone is not reported as a verified mailbox.
What does catch-all mean?
The recipient domain may accept mail checks for addresses regardless of whether a specific mailbox exists. Treat that result as uncertain; it is distinct from valid.
Can verification guarantee zero bounces?
No. Mailboxes, server rules and delivery conditions change. Verification provides evidence at check time and keeps uncertain results visible; it cannot guarantee future delivery.
